Laurence Slavin

Laurence Slavin

For nearly four decades Laurence has been at the centre of financial and structural change in the NHS, advising generations of GPs, consultants, and healthcare professionals through some of the most consequential shifts in the history of British medicine.

He trained as a Chartered Accountant with Stoy Hayward (now BDO), specialising in tax, before joining Ramsay Brown in the mid-1980s. The firm was his father’s. When he passed, Laurence took on the responsibility of leading it and made it his mission to build the firm the medical profession deserved: one defined by genuine specialism, earned trust, and advice that made a real difference to people’s careers and livelihoods. Appointed Partner in 1987, he led the firm’s development ever since.

His expertise spans NHS contract reform, pension planning, partnership structuring and disputes, and long-term strategic advisory for medical professionals at every stage of their careers. He has advised the NHS Executive, contributed evidence to the Doctors and Dentists Review Body, and sat on national committees for the Department of Health and the British Medical Association. He is a published author and a regular contributor to the healthcare finance press, and has delivered talks across the UK and internationally.

Clients come to him for technical expertise. What they remember is something different: that he listens carefully and that he understands the pressures they are under. Good advice is built on that kind of attention. It always has been.

As a mentor, he has spent years helping to develop the next generation of advisers within the firm, instilling a culture of curiosity, integrity, and professional pride. That is as important to him as any technical work he has done.
