UK – Sumer is celebrating its third birthday with a bang: new firms join the group and it breaks through £285m of revenue!
Sumer may be the new challenger on the block, but it is built on deep regional heritage. Its founding practices have been champions of SME’s for hundreds of years collectively.
Sumer’s third anniversary marks a period of exceptional growth, culminating in recognition as the UK’s 12th largest accountancy practice, with annual fee income of over £285m. This has been underpinned by a founding belief – that the best support for SMEs is delivered locally, through colleagues who understand the communities where clients are based.
Sumer has brought together 14 of the UK’s strongest regional accountancy firms into a single national group. These 14 firms act as the regional “hubs” for the local delivery of services to clients. Today, the business spans more than 70 local offices, employs over 3,000 colleagues and supports more than 60,000 clients across the UK.
As well as the milestone acquisition of BHP as a key Yorkshire hub and Moore Thompson as a Lincolnshire hub, over recent months, several hub-led acquisitions have completed across the Group, including MMC and Ramsay Brown in London, Price Pearson in the Midlands, Jacksons in Nottinghamshire, Argents in Norwich and Hartley Fowler in Brighton.
These transactions further strengthen local capability, specialist depth and regional coverage within Sumer’s national framework and means that Sumer have fully integrated 44 firms into the group in 36 months.
Warren Mead, Chief Executive Officer of Sumer, commented:
“When we launched Sumer, we set out to build something different; a national firm that genuinely champions community based organisations, without losing the local relationships that matter most.
We’ve brought together 14 regional hubs, invested in national infrastructure and technology, and built a platform that allows great local firms to go further, faster, together for our clients.
Our growth reflects the quality of the firms joining us, the people within them, and a shared commitment to doing the right thing for clients, colleagues and communities.”
James Taylor, Chief Client Officer at Sumer, continued:
“Sumer’s model is simple but powerful: local relationships, backed by national capability. Every one of our offices is connected to a wider commercial engine sharing expertise, specialist services and best practice, while remaining deeply embedded in the local markets our clients operate in. That combination is what’s driving our growth, and it’s what sets Sumer apart.”
As Sumer enters its fourth year, the Group remains focused on continuing to support SMEs, not-for-profit and other community based organisations – through local delivery, investing in its people and technology, and selectively partnering with high-quality regional firms that share its values and ambition.
